Mr. Ann Jong Juan (Han Laoda) has over 40 years of teaching experience in the Chinese language. He was formerly a specialist writer for Chinese language teaching materials with the Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education. He is now also the author and copy-writer to “Full Marks in Class” of “Thumbs Up” and “Friday Weekly”, Lian He Zao Bao .

Mr. Ann’ s acute understanding of a student’s academic and personal needs has allowed him to develop unique and systematic teaching methods that makes Chinese interesting for everyone, thus placing Han Language Centre as a forerunner in Chinese education.

Since 1993, he has been invited by the “Thumbs Up” and “Friday Weekly” to conduct public workshops on tackling PSLE and “O” level Chinese Examinations. His workshops have been extremely well-received by both parents and students.  He has also been invited by both primary and secondary schools, community centers and other organizations to give lectures on the same topics.

Mr. Ann has been specially invited on many other occasions to share his secrets to learning the Chinese language:

·        Invited by MOE Gifted Education Programs (GEP) to deliver a speech to Primary 6 GEP pupils on preparing for the PSLE in 1995 and 1996;

·        Invited to conduct “ Creative Writing Camp for Secondary School ” in 1998 and 1999 organized jointly by MOE and NUS Art Centre;

·        Invited by MOE to conduct workshop on “Art of Crosstalk” to primary schools’ teachers.


A prominent figure in the theatre arts arena, Mr. Ann has authored and directed several crosstalk collections and plays. He was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1990 (Theatre) for his contributions to the performing arts.

Mr. Ann has received a Master Degree on Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Xiamen University, China on 3rd July 2010
